For Immediate Release: November 27, 2018
The City of Alexandria invites the public to help make the 2018 holiday season brighter for the most vulnerable members of our community, including low-income families, foster children, seniors and residents with disabilities.
Through the annual Holiday Sharing Program, coordinated by the Fund for Alexandria’s Child, sponsors may purchase gifts for eligible families and individuals, which are distributed by the City’s Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) staff and volunteers. Gifts of household necessities, clothing, toys and gift cards will help make someone’s holiday season a little brighter.
In October, volunteers registered more than 700 families in need. Currently, 300 of the registered families have been matched with sponsors, but 400 families are still in need of assistance. Residents can sign up to sponsor or to volunteer. Monetary donations can be made by credit card online. Donation checks can be made payable to The Fund for Alexandria's Child or to the DCHS Senior Fund and mailed to Holiday Sharing Program, 2525 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria, VA 22301.
The Fund for Alexandria’s Child works to enhance the quality of life of the most vulnerable children in our community. The Senior Fund aims to improve the lives of low-income seniors in Alexandria. Contributions to both DCHS programs are tax-deductible.
