[Archived] City of Alexandria Announces Schedule of Services for Veterans Day 2018, November 11-12

City of Alexandria government offices, libraries and recreation centers will be open on Monday, November 12. All Veterans Day-related updates and closures are listed below.

Resource Recovery: Residential refuse and recycling will be collected according to the City’s normal schedule for the week of November 12 to 16; there will be no "holiday slide.” The Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling Center (3224 Colvin St.) will be open on November 12.

Animal Shelter: On November 12, the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter will observe weekend hours, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Animal visiting hours will begin at noon, from November 10 through 12. Adoption fees on adult animals will be waived for veterans and activity-duty military personnel.

Health Facilities: On November 12, the Alexandria Health Department (4480 King St.) and the Flora Krause Casey Wellness Center (1200 N. Howard St.) will be closed. The Teen Wellness Center at T.C. Williams High School (3330 King St.) will also be closed.

Historic Alexandria: The Alexandria History Museum at the  Lyceum will be open on a regular schedule from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on November 12; all other City museums will be closed. For more information, visit alexandriava.gov/Historic.

Hotlines: All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including the child protective services hotline at 703.746.5800; the domestic violence hotline at 703.746.4911; the emergency services for mental health or substance abuse crisis hotline at 703.746.3401; the adult protective services hotline at 1.888.832.3858; and the sexual assault hotline at 703.683.7273.

Libraries: The Alexandria Law Library (520 King St.) will be closed on November 12.  All other Alexandria Library branches and the Talking Books Service at Beatley Central Library will be open on November 12.

Parking: The Alexandria Police Department will enforce all normal parking regulations on Sunday, November 11, and will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces and residential permit parking districts on Monday, November 12. This suspension of enforcement applies only to the restrictions at legal parking spaces, and does not permit parking in any location normally prohibited (for example, no parking zones, loading zones, or spaces for persons with disabilities). Temporary no parking signs will be enforced on November 12.

Recreation and Art Centers: All City recreation and art centers will be open on a regular schedule on November 12. Please check alexandriava.gov/RecreationCenters for specific information on operating hours.

Schools: All Alexandria City Public Schools will be closed on November 12.

State Offices: The Circuit Court, Clerk of Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, and Court Service Unit located in the Alexandria Courthouse at 520 King St. will be closed on November 12. The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office, located at 2681 Mill Road, will also be closed on November 12.

Transit: The Alexandria Transit Company DASH bus service will operate on its regular Sunday  schedule on November 11 and regular weekday schedule on November 12. The free King Street Trolley will operate on its normal schedule, every 10 -15 minutes between the King Street Metro Station and the Potomac River waterfront, from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on November 11 and November 12. There will be no Blue or Yellow line service between the Braddock Road and Pentagon City Metrorail stations over Veterans Day weekend (Friday, November 9 through Monday, November. 12). This shutdown is due to a four-day Metro project that will close the Reagan National Airport and Crystal City stations. Free shuttle buses will replace trains between Braddock Road and Pentagon City stations during this time. For more detailed information, visit wmata.com or call 202.637.7000.
