For Immediate Release: October 17, 2018
The Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities (RPCA) will hold an open house to seek feedback on Ewald Park and future park projects, including the addition of Parkour equipment. The meeting will be held in Ewald Park, 4452 Duke St from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, November 3.
Per the 2016 Neighborhood Park Plan, the playground will be
moved to the former tennis court area. RPCA is proposing to amend the park plan
to also include a parkour area adjacent to the future playground. The parkour
area would have elements for all age groups to practice balance, exercise, and
agility. The area would be designed in partnership with parkour athletes from T.C.
Williams High School and PKMove.
A presentation to the Park and Recreation Commission on the proposal can be
viewed here.
The open house will include Parkour Demonstrations, questions and answers with
City staff, and activities with the Mobile Art Lab. Community feedback will
inform a Park and Recreation Commission determination on whether to approve
this change to the Ewald Park Plan at their meeting scheduled for Thursday, November
15. Feedback on the concept can also be sent to dana.wedeles@alexandriava.gov
or 703.746.5491.
