Get fired up for the cause! Throughout the month of October you can support the Vola Lawson Breast Cancer Awareness Memorial Fund by purchasing a pink Breast Cancer Awareness T-shirt from the Alexandria Fire Department and the Alexandria Commission for Women.
Shirt sizes range from adult small to 3XL; short-sleeve shirts sell for $15, and long-sleeve shirts sell for $20. Shirts will be available for purchase from 8 a.m. to noon on October 13 and October 20 at the Del Ray Farmer's Market, located at the corner of East Oxford and Mount Vernon avenues. You can also purchase a T-shirt from 8 a.m. to noon on October 27 at the Old Town Farmer's Market at Market Square, located at 301 King St. All proceeds from the T-shirt sales will be donated to the Vola Lawson Breast Cancer Memorial Fund, and all Alexandria Fire Department employees can wear the shirts as part of their uniform throughout the month of October.
This year, the department is also showing its support for one of our own who is currently battling cancer. Paramedic Amy Lusby previously waged a courageous battle against breast cancer and was hopeful that she would be able to put that chapter of her life behind her. Sadly, Amy is taking that difficult journey once again.
To show support for Amy and others fighting the same battle, members of the Alexandria Fire Department are selling short-sleeve, navy blue & pink T-shirts for $20. All proceeds from T-shirt sales will be donated directly to Paramedic Lusby, and AFD employees can also wear these shirts as part of their uniform throughout October. These shirts are available in sizes small to 2XL for $20 with a $5 flat rate for shipping, if requested. To purchase a T-shirt to support Paramedic Lusby or to receive additional information, contact Paramedic Michael Kohrt at michael.kohrt@alexandriava.gov or complete the fundraiser form.
