[Archived] Annual Alexandria King Street Art Festival to Affect Parking This Weekend

For Immediate Release: September 17, 2018

The 16th Annual Alexandria King Street Art Festival will be held Saturday, September 22, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, September 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. To accommodate the event, parking will be prohibited on both sides of King Street, from Washington to Union Streets, beginning at 3 a.m. on Saturday until approximately 9 p.m. on Sunday. Parking will also be prohibited on the 100 block of South Pitt Street to allow for The Alexandrian Hotel valet parking and taxi stand. In addition, one block north and south of the cross streets between King and Union (Lee, Fairfax, Royal, Pitt and St. Asaph streets) will be closed to traffic during the festival’s operating hours; however, parking will be available on those streets (with the exception of the 100 block of Pitt Street, as noted).

On Saturday, September 22, in addition to the Art Festival, the Old Town Farmers’ Market will be open in Market Square beginning at 7 a.m. Participants in these events should take advantage of the City’s parking garages. The Market Square Garage will be open and accessible throughout the festival; motorists may take Cameron, Fairfax, or Royal Streets to the 100 block of North Fairfax Street to enter the garage. Motorists exiting the Market Square Garage will only be able to turn left to proceed north to Cameron Street.

Visitors are encouraged to use the free King Street Trolley during the festivities.
