[Archived] City of Alexandria to Celebrate PARK(ing) Day on September 21

For Immediate Release: September 12, 2018

On Friday, September 21, the City of Alexandria will celebrate PARK(ing) Day, a worldwide event promoting the importance of preserving and creating public open space in urban areas. The City is currently accepting permit applications for “parklets” — temporary parks located in parking spaces around Alexandria on the day of the event. Those wishing to sponsor parklets must submit an application (including a parklet proposal that complies with City guidelines) and an application fee of $40 per metered space and $30 per unmetered space (a minimum of two spaces is required for each parklet). The deadline to submit an application is Friday, September 14.

On PARK(ing) Day, members of the public are invited to explore parklets around the City and learn more about the City agencies and private organizations sponsoring these pop-up spaces.

For more information about Alexandria’s PARK(ing) Day event, including the permit process for creating a parklet and a list of participating entities and their parklet locations, visit the City's PARK(ing) Day page.
