[Archived] Alexandria Police Receive 1st Place Award Related to Traffic Safety Program

For Immediate release: September 12, 2018

The Alexandria Police Department is pleased to announce that we received an award recognizing our efforts in promoting traffic safety in the City of Alexandria in 2017. The Alexandria Police Department received 1st Place in the Virginia Law Enforcement Challenge for municipalities with 226-375 Officers. The award presentation took place during the VACP’s 93rd Annual Training Conference on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, in Roanoke, VA.

The Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police (VACP) Law Enforcement Challenge is a traffic safety recognition program that recognizes agencies that excel in keeping their roadways safe. It is designed to strengthen and support traffic safety and provides agencies an opportunity to make a difference in the communities they serve, learn from each other, and establish future goals in traffic education and enforcement.

Regarding the Alexandria Police receiving this award, Chief Michael Brown commented, “I want to thank each and every one of our patrol and traffic safety officers who make an effort to keep our City streets safer; it is not only very important to our residents, but to all who share the road in Alexandria.”

The Virginia Law Enforcement Challenge Awards program is supported by a grant from the Virginia Highway Safety Office. Additional information about the Law Enforcement Challenge program can be found online at http://www.smartsafeandsober.org/programs/LEC
