[Archived] Jury Recommends 20 Years in Hotel Shooting Death

For Immediate Release: July 26, 2018

On July 26, 2018, a jury found the defendant, Demarcus Robertson, a 20-year-old City resident, guilty of Voluntary Manslaughter-Felony for the shooting death of Desmond Roseboro, a 28-year-old City resident. Robertson was also convicted of two felony counts of Unlawful Wounding for shooting and wounding two other people during the same incident. Robertson was charged with Murder, but the jury convicted him of the lesser-included Manslaughter offense. The charges arose from an incident that occurred in a hotel off of Eisenhower Avenue in the City on May 13, 2017.

After further deliberations, the jury recommended that Robertson be sentenced to serve a total of 20 years in the penitentiary, 10 years for Manslaughter and 5 years for each count of Unlawful Wounding. This recommended sentence is the maximum potential sentence for these offenses.

Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Jessica Smith and Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Amanda Tassa diligently prosecuted the matter on the behalf of the Commonwealth. The case was investigated by Detective Will Oakley of the Alexandria Police Department.

The defendant remains in the custody of the Sheriff and incarcerated in the Truesdale Adult Detention Center. The formal sentencing hearing of the matter was set on September 20, 2018, at 10:00 a.m.
