[Archived] Alexandria Continues Progress with Comprehensive Community-Driven Health Assessment; Second Community Meeting on July 26

For Immediate Release: July 16, 2018

The Alexandria Health Department is continuing to facilitate a community-driven effort to develop a complete picture of health in Alexandria.  Residents are invited to make community health a priority by attending the second Community Health Meeting on Thursday, July 26, from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m., at the Dr. Oswald Durant Memorial Center (1605 Cameron St.).

The community health assessment process represents a grassroots effort to identify and address key health issues affecting Alexandrians. The assessment will gather information on community quality of life, health assets, causes of health inequity, and the effectiveness of public health systems. Results will be used to inform community decision-making, prioritization, and planning. The assessment framework aims to ensure that the process is inclusive, while laying the foundation for improved health throughout the community.

At this second meeting, community members and stakeholders will discuss one method for gathering information to understand health in Alexandria. All attendees will be invited to support the study by collecting and contributing key information about their communities on their mobile devices. The meeting is free and open to the public; please RSVP online. Light refreshments will be served, and live translators will be provided for Spanish, Arabic, and Amharic speakers.

The next Community Health Meetings are scheduled for September 27, 2018, December 6, 2018, and March 28, 2019.
