[Archived] Construction Work Scheduled at Fort Ward Field & Minnie Howard Field

The City of Alexandria’s Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is conducting a maintenance project on the synthetic turf field at Fort Ward Athletic Facility, 4421 West Braddock Road and  Minnie Howard, 3701 West Braddock Road. The projects include removal of the existing infill and turf, re-certification of the stone base, and installation of new synthetic turf and infill. The infill will be a blend of ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber and sand.

Work at Fort Ward Athletic Facility is scheduled to take place between June 25 and August 30. The field will be closed the week of June 25 for initial inspections and will be re-opened to the public on June 29. The field and parking lot will be closed to the public for construction between July 23 and August 30. The tennis courts will be open for use.

Work at Minnie Howard Field is scheduled to take place between June 25 and August 15. The field will be closed for the duration of the project.
