[Archived] Alexandria Commission on Persons with Disabilities Announces Winners of the 2018 ACPD and Chamber of Commerce Awards

The Alexandria Commission on Persons with Disabilities (ACPD), in conjunction with the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, have announced the winners of annual awards to be presented at an event on Tuesday, June 19.

The following individuals will be recognized by the ACPD:

Jayla Gaskins, a student at T.C. Williams High School, will receive the Gerry Bertier Scholarship, which is awarded to an Alexandria resident or student with a disability who is seeking post-secondary education.
Josh Baker, General Manager and CEO of the Alexandria Transit Company (DASH Bus), will receive the John Duty Collins III Outstanding Advocate for Persons with Disabilities Award, which recognizes an individual who advocates for and contributes to the promotion of equal opportunity for people with disabilities in Alexandria.

The following organizations will be recognized with Disability Awareness Awards by the ACPD and the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce:

Alexandria Children’s Dentistry will be recognized for its commitment to promoting positive awareness among employees about the needs of customers with disabilities and for making special efforts to render goods or services accessible to persons with disabilities.
Inova Alexandria Hospital will be recognized for its commitment to hiring persons with disabilities and aiding employees with disabilities in furthering their careers.

The awardees will be honored at an event on Tuesday, June 19, at 5:30 p.m., in the City Council Chamber at Alexandria City Hall (301 King St.). The event is free and open to the public.
