For Immediate Release: June 5, 2018
The City of Alexandria’s Office of the Arts will host a
reception with artist Michael Szivos of SOFTlab to learn about the studio’s practice
and process for their new public art project at King Street Park at the
Waterfront. The reception will take place on Wednesday, June 20 at the Torpedo
Factory Art Center, 105 N. Union St. from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The artist
presentation will begin at 7:30 p.m. The reception is free and open to the
public.
The City of Alexandria’s Office of the Arts has commissioned
SOFTlab to design a temporary, site specific public art piece as part of Site/See:
New Views in Old Town, a public art exhibition series that invites artists to
create an original, temporary installation for King Street Park at the
Waterfront, a new public space that is being created at the foot of King
Street.
SOFTlab, a New York-based design studio led by Michael
Szivos, has been selected to create the first work in the series, which will be
installed in the spring of 2019. Szivos’ artwork will kick off an annual series
of temporary installations whose goal is to attract visitors, foster
interaction, and enrich the experience of Alexandria’s waterfront.
