[Archived] The National Capital Puppetry Guild present Monthly Puppet Shows series at Durant Arts Center

For Immediate Release: June 1, 2018

The National Capital Puppetry Guild and Office of the Arts are collaborating to present a series of monthly, family-friendly puppet shows at the Durant Arts Center.

On June 16, Alex and Olmsted perform their award winning "Milo the Magnificent."  The puppet show series is designed for all ages and young children and toddlers are welcome.  Two shows will be offered 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.

Using stunningly innovative puppetry, Milo the Magnificent tells the tale of Milo, a hard-working and aspiring entertainer and magician always ready to put on his best show.  As he unpacks his latest achievements in science and magic, he finds that the best of plans do not always go as expected.

Alex & Olmsted (Alex Vernon and Sarah Olmsted Thomas) have been making puppets together since 2010.  Alex is a silhouettist and automata engineer, and Sarah is a fifth-generation artist and clown.  In recent years they have performed at the Kennedy Center, The Puppeteers of America Festival, The Shakespeare Theatre Company, The Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, The Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry in Connecticut, and Bread and Puppet in Vermont.

Reservations per show are $5 for all ages.  Children must be accompanied by at least one adult.  To purchase tickets online, visit www.alexandriava.gov/webtrac, select activity number:
