For Wednesday, March 21, all City government facilities and courts are closed. Emergency personnel should report as scheduled. If you have any questions about your work status, please contact your supervisor.
A Winter Storm Warning for the City of Alexandria continues until 8 p.m. tonight. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are expected. Crews are working citywide, on 12-hour shifts for the duration of the storm and are now focused on treating and plowing bridges, overpasses, and working on intermediate and residential roads. Most primary and secondary roads have been cleared; however, snow continues to fall and conditions on some roads remain hazardous. Power outages may also occur due to the heavy, wet snow.
This accumulation of snow may result in a Level 1 storm, which means that travel could be dangerous. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary to avoid these hazardous conditions and allow City crews to work safely.
Keep batteries and flashlights ready, as well as any other necessary supplies; make sure cell phones and other electronic devices are charged.
