For Immediate Release: January 22, 2018
The Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities (RPCA) is holding a community meeting to discuss the Alexandria Titans Youth Football Program at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30 at the Lee Center, 1108 Jefferson St. The meeting will provide an opportunity for parents and stakeholders interested in the program to hear from City staff and representatives of the Alexandria Titans Youth Football Club (ATYFC). Specific topics of the meeting will include a review of the 2017 season, an update on the affiliate program process, and an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.
The Alexandria Titans are a member of the Fairfax County Youth Football League (FCYFL). The FCYFL is a full contact tackle football league. Teams are formed based on ability as well as by the age/weight. Currently, the ATYFC is working toward an affiliate status with the City of Alexandria for the 2018 season. To date, the City has similar affiliate agreements with Soccer, Little League, Rugby and Lacrosse youth sports programs. These organizations are independent from the City and provide their own leadership, organizational and operational structure. At this time, the ATYFC is a City operated youth sports program under direction of RPCA, assisted by a volunteer Commissioner and an Assistant Commissioner.
