[Archived] Main Breaks in Alexandria Affect Residential Water Service, Traffic

For Immediate Release: January 9, 2018

Two water main breaks this afternoon will significantly impact Alexandria residents and customers on the evening of January 9.

Following one break this afternoon at Janneys Lane & N. Quaker Lane, and another at Trinity Drive, nearly 200 Virginia American Water customers and 29 fire hydrants will be without service. As crews work to repair the breaks, one lane of N. Quaker Lane will be closed to traffic in each direction. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

Virginia American Water, the utility company responsible for water service and water mains in Alexandria, is on-site at the scene of both breaks and working to make repairs as quickly as possible.  The company is also repairing other smaller breaks throughout the city, as extreme temperature fluctuations have caused breaks across the region.

A map of the areas affected by the two most significant breaks, as well as a list of streets that may experience disruptions in water service, is below.

For questions about water service, please contact Virginia American Water at 800.452.6863.
