[Archived] City of Alexandria Hosts Replicas of China’s “Terracotta Warriors” in Market Square

Terracotta WarriorsThe City of Alexandria is hosting two replicas of the famous “Terracotta Warriors” in Market Square (301 King St.), to celebrate the exhibition “Terracotta Army: Legacy of the First Emperor of China,” at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) in Richmond.

The exhibit in Richmond includes 10 of the original life-size figures, along with more than 130 works of art drawn from the collections of 14 art museums and archaeological institutes across the Shaanxi province in China. “Terracotta Army,” which includes more than 40 objects never shown before in the United States, will be on display at VMFA through March 11, 2018.

As part of the exhibit, eight life-size replicas have been placed in key locations throughout Virginia, including Old Town Alexandria. Each replica stands six feet tall and weighs about 500 pounds, and will be on display through March 2018.
