For Immediate Release: November 16, 2017
The City of Alexandria is hosting a trained "Navigator" to assist residents in obtaining health insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act before the annual open enrollment period ends on December 15. Anyone who needs coverage for 2018 should visit HealthCare.Gov to start an application and shop for plans to take effect as early as January 1, 2018.
The Affordable Care Act (ACA), frequently referred to as “Obamacare,” provides consumers with subsidies that lower the cost of health insurance for low-income households. Appointments are required to speak with a Navigator, and should be scheduled soon since this year’s enrollment period is shorter than in previous years. Call 703.647.4748, or visit www.enrollva.org, to schedule an appointment or for other help with enrollment.
Every health insurance plan in the Marketplace at www.HealthCare.gov offers comprehensive coverage, from doctors to medications to hospital visits. The site provides comparisons between insurance options based on price, benefits, quality and other features.
Residents who miss open enrollment may still qualify for a special enrollment period due to certain life changes. Visit www.HealthCare.gov for more information. Enrollment in Medicaid and Family Access to Medical Insurance Security FAMIS can be done throughout the year. Check eligibility for Medicaid or FAMIS programs through Cover Virginia.
Enroll Virginia complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act and provides services in a culturally appropriate manner. Please contact Susan Nolan at 703.684.0751 in advance for language access or other accommodations.
