The Alexandria Beautification Commission (ABC) will hold its
annual Awards Ceremony on Wednesday September 27 at 7:30 pm at the Lyceum, 201
S. Washington St in Old Town. The ABC awards will recognize City residents,
organizations, and businesses and community groups for their efforts in
contributing to the beautification of the City of Alexandria. The event is a way to say, "thank
you" to citizens and businesses that take pride in our community.
The Commission will hand out awards based on Residential
Beautification, Commercial Beautification, Sustainable Beautification, Excellence
in Architecture and Green Practices in Beautification. Award winners are
limited to properties visible from the public right of way.
The ceremony will feature a keynote speech by renowned
Landscape Architect Michael Vergason, of Old Town-based Michael Vergason
Landscape Architects. His talk will be
titled, “Why Beauty?”
The Alexandria Beautification Commission is a 12-member
volunteer board approved by the City Council for two-year terms. The Alexandria
Beautification Commission promotes beautification of the City through advocacy,
education and the celebration of community beautification efforts.
The ceremony is open to the public and light refreshments
