[Archived] Powhatan Park Courts’ Improvements Begin September 14

For Immediate Release: September 1, 2017

The City of Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities will be renovating the tennis and basketball courts at Powhatan Park, 1010 Douglas St. The courts will be milled, repaved, and recolored. The courts will be lined for tennis, pickleball, futsal and basketball. The existing fencing and goals will be replaced and a movable tennis net and futsal goals will be added.

Weather permitting, work is scheduled for September 14 through October 30. Please note that the new asphalt must cure for two weeks after installation before new lines and color can be applied.

The park will be open during construction, however temporary parking restrictions may occur. Patrons should expect work throughout the day. For your safety, please be alert to construction activities and use extra caution when moving around the site.

Alternate courts for use during construction are in Eugene Simpson Park, located at 426 East Monroe Ave.
