[Archived] Robertson Indicted for Murder

For Immediate Release: August 17, 2017 

On August 10, 2017, Demarcus Robertson, a 19-year old Alexandria resident, was indicted by a Grand Jury on 6 felony charges related to the May 13^th, 2017, shooting death of Desmond Roseboro. The offenses occurred at a hotel located on Bluestone Road in the City. It is alleged that in addition to shooting Roseboro, Robertson also shot two female bystanders during the incident.

Robertson was charged with a total of six felony counts: Murder, two counts of Aggravated Malicious Wounding related to the shooting of the bystanders and three counts of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony. The murder and aggravated malicious wounding charges each carry a maximum sentence of life in prison. The firearms charges carry a mandatory minimum sentence of 13 years in prison.

Robertson’s whereabouts are unknown and a warrant for his arrest is currently active. He is believed to be armed and dangerous. Citizens who believe they have information regarding his whereabouts should contact the Alexandria Police and should not attempt to approach him.

Rule 3.6 of the Virginia State Bar's Rules of Professional Conduct for Attorneys states, in pertinent part: "A lawyer participating in or associated with the… prosecution … of a criminal matter that may be tried to a jury shall not make or participate in making an extrajudicial statement… that the lawyer knows, or should know, will have a substantial likelihood of interfering with the fairness of a trial by jury." Therefore, the Commonwealth is prohibited from discussing the evidence, its trial strategy or its work product prior to trial.
