For Immediate Release: July 19, 2017
The award-winning Energy Masters Training program, which trains volunteers in energy efficiency, water conservation, and community education and outreach, is seeking volunteers in Alexandria and Arlington. Volunteers work to improve the lives of families living in affordable housing communities by reducing energy costs and promoting behavior change for sustained environmental impact.
Now in its seventh year, the Energy Masters program serves low-income families in Alexandria and Arlington. The program is now accepting applications for community adult and student apprentice volunteers for the fall training program, which begins in late September. Student apprentices must be in college or high school and over 16 years old. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis through September 15 or until all spaces are filled.
The program, created by Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment in partnership with the Virginia Cooperative Extension and Arlington Thrive, is funded with support from the City of Alexandria, the Arlington County Community Development Fund, the Arlington Initiative to Rethink Energy, and the Arlington County Department of Environmental Services. Affordable housing and social services partners include AHC, Inc., the Alexandria Housing Development Corporation and the Arlington County Department of Human Services.
