[Archived] Heat Advisory Issued for Alexandria from Noon to 8 p.m. on July 13

July 13, 2017; 11:25 a.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the Alexandria area, from noon to 8 p.m. today.  Temperatures are expected to reach the mid to upper 90s, with heat index values around 105 degrees.  This creates a risk of heat-related illness for those without air conditioning or those outdoors for an extended period.  For emergency medical assistance, call 911.

Please check on neighbors who may be at risk, and take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.  Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible, and drink plenty of water.
