[Archived] Alexandria Agencies to Hold Press Conference in Response to June 14, 2017 Monroe Avenue Shooting

For Immediate Release 

The Public Safety Agencies serving the City of Alexandria will hold a joint press conference today at 2 p.m. referencing last week's shooting on Monroe Avenue. Chief Michael L. Brown of the Alexandria Police Department, Chief Robert Dubé of the Alexandria Fire Department, and Sheriff Dana Lawhorne of the Alexandria Sheriff's Office will discuss the response of their agencies to the shooting incident and the individual contributions made by members of their agencies.

On Wednesday, June 14, 2017, Alexandria public safety personnel responded to a call for an active shooter in the 400 block of E. Monroe Avenue. There were multiple injuries as a result of the shooting and the suspect ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The area around the shooting was closed for more than three days for the investigation, evidence recovery, and clean-up. 

This briefing will cover specifics of the public safety response and recovery efforts made by the these agencies. This will also include their initial response and subsequent actions.
