[Archived] City of Alexandria Announces Reopening of Streets and Park Around Simpson Field

For Immediate Release: June 17, 2017

The City of Alexandria has announced that all streets and recreational areas around Eugene Simpson Stadium Park (426 E. Monroe Ave.), except the large baseball field, have been reopened to public access.  The large baseball field, which is only accessible via scheduled team permits, will remain closed until June 19.  The closures were necessary to allow law enforcement agencies to investigate the shooting incident on June 14.

The City has advised Metrobus, DASH, and area businesses and organizations that they may resume normal operations.  The field and spectator areas have been cleaned by a certified contractor, and parking lots have been cleared of emergency vehicles.

The City is grateful for the outpouring of support shown to first responders and other personnel at the scene, and for the community's patience during the closures necessary to conduct an appropriate investigation.
