[Archived] Statement on Shooting Incident

For Immediate Release: June 14, 2017

At 7:09 a.m. today, the Alexandria Police Department received a report of an active shooter in the 400 block of E. Monroe Ave.  Alexandria Police arrived within three minutes and joined law enforcement personnel who had been at the location prior to the shooting.  Five individuals were transported to local hospitals, and the suspected shooter was taken into custody.  There is no indication at this time of any additional threat to the public.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is the lead investigating agency.  No further details are available at this time. 

"Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this tragedy, including those who were injured and the first responders who rendered immediate aid," said Alexandria Mayor Allison Silberberg.  "We are shocked by such an incident in our peaceful community."

Members of the public and the news media are asked to avoid Monroe Street today to allow law enforcement personnel to conduct the investigation.
