Updated May 3, 2017: Due to the inclement weather forecast, the Building Safety Month Kick-off event will be held in the Vola Lawson Lobby and Sister Cities Conference Room 1101 on the first floor of City Hall, 301 King St. (Cameron Street side of the building).

The public is invited to celebrate building safety and the code professionals who help protect our community, by attending the annual City of Alexandria Building Safety Month Kick-Off event, on Friday, May 5, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., in Market Square (301 King St.). This free event will feature guest speakers including Mayor Allison Silberberg, City Manager Mark Jinks, and International Code Council Senior Vice-President of Government Relations Sara Yerkes; vendors from the local building community; representatives from multiple City departments, as well as food and fun!

Building Safety Month is a public awareness campaign offered each year to help individuals, families and businesses understand what it takes to create and sustain safe and sustainable structures. This year’s theme is “Code Officials -- Partners in Community Safety and Economic Growth.” Throughout the month, City staff will be available at the following locations throughout Alexandria to answer questions about building safety, design, permitting and construction, and other code-related topics:
