[Archived] Senior Prosecutor Wins Prestigious Award

For Immediate Release: April 10, 2017

On April 3, 2017, Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney David A. Lord won the prestigious Warren B. Von Schuch Award, presented each year by the Virginia Association of Commonwealth’s Attorney to one deserving Virginia prosecutor.

In addition to excellence in the courtroom, the criteria for the award include service to the Virginia Association of Commonwealth’s Attorneys and service to the local community.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Porter said: “There are approximately 1000 assistant prosecutors in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Each year, the Virginia Association of Commonwealth’s Attorneys selects one of their number to receive this important award. While there were several outstanding nominees, there is no doubt that the Association made the right choice in selecting David Lord for recognition.”

“David serves as the supervisor of our office’s Violent Crimes Unit, and is tasked with overseeing the prosecution of all violent crimes that occur in the City. David is a seasoned homicide prosecutor, and he led the prosecution of Charles Severance for the serial murders of three wonderful Alexandria residents.”

“David has taught literally thousands of Virginia prosecutors on any number of topics. Most importantly, he is a statewide resource with regards to prosecutorial ethics, an important topic upon which David regularly presents.”

“David is an Alexandria resident and is very active in the local community. He currently serves as the president of the Alexandria Bar Association and is the organizer of my office’s fundraiser for the Bar’s “Beat the Odds” Scholarship Program, which provides college scholarships for underprivileged youth in the City.”

“I cannot reduce to words my esteem for David. He is truly an amazing prosecutor and an even better person. I am privileged to have him working in my office, and I am proud to call him a friend.”
