[Archived] Office of the Arts Invites You to The Migration Project

For Immediate Release: March 13, 2017

The Jane Franklin Dance Company in collaboration with the Office of the Arts invite you to attend The Migration Project, Saturday, March 25 beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Durant Arts Center, 1605 Cameron St. The Migration Project features Jane Franklin Dance Company members Emily Crews, Carrie Monger, Amy Scaringe, Brynna Shank, Rebecca Weiss.  In addition, Rosemary Feit Covey, Torpedo Factory Art Center and Dawn Whitmore, Resident Artist Arlington Arts Center will feature visual arts pieces for the project.

The Migration Project explores stories of relocation. Whether it is a family history dating back multiple generations, or a recent relocation, we have in common the ‘pull’ to find better opportunity or the ‘push’ to leave because of no choice. The extraordinary increase in global migration over the past 500 years has left traces in our DNA.

Rosemary Feit Covey’s art, originally shown as The 0 Project, is a large-scale sculptural piece meant to give voice to the underrepresented and traditionally ignored. Printed on Dupont Tyvek banner media, it is installed at several positions and in conjunction with the performers.

Dawn Whitmore adds brief video statements containing hand-drawn images inspired by words and phrases provided by the interview participants. One such theme that re-echoes is “the American Dream.”

Tickets are $15 and Children 6 years and younger are free.
