[Archived] City of Alexandria to Hold Open House on 72-Hour Parking Rule

For Immediate Release: February 13, 2017

The City of Alexandria invites the public to an open house to give feedback on the “72-Hour Parking Rule” on February 16, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., in Sister Cities Conference Room 1101 at Alexandria City Hall, 301 King St.

The parking rule (City Code Section 10-4-8) prohibits parking vehicles within the public right-of-way for more than 72 hours at a time on all city streets, including residential and unrestricted streets. The rule is intended to make parking available for all drivers, but can pose a challenge for residents who travel or don’t drive to work.

The open house will provide an overview of the parking rule, and will feature interactive stations where participants can review enforcement data, analyze the results of an AlexEngage online survey, and provide input on potential options.

For more information, visit the 72-Hour Ordinance Review webpage. For media inquiries, contact Andrea J. Blackford, Senior Communications Officer, at andrea.blackford@alexandriava.gov or 703.746.3959.

The City of Alexandria is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended. To request a reasonable accommodation, e-mail Geralyn.Taylor@alexandriava.gov or call 703.746.4084, Virginia Relay 711.
