For Immediate Release: December 21, 2016
The Alexandria Health Department is warning customers to discard certain eggnog that did not undergo proper pasteurization. The potentially unsafe eggnog was sold by Coulter Farms at the Old Town Farmers' Market (Market Square, 301 King St.), on December 3, 10, and 17, 2016, and was bottled in pint, quart and half gallon bottles with use-by dates of "12/18/16" and "12/23/16."
The issue was identified during a check of pasteurization records by a health inspector at the producer’s farm in Pennsylvania. Because the pasteurization process was not completed properly, the eggnog has the potential to include germs, pathogens, bacteria or contaminants that could harm a consumer. While the Alexandria Health Department is not aware of any illness associated with this product so far, any eggnog matching the advisory dates above should be immediately discarded and not consumed.
