[Archived] City of Alexandria Installs New Wayfinding Signs in Old Town

The City of Alexandria has installed 28 new informational wayfinding markers in the Old Town area.  These four-sided, mini-kiosks were placed on historic “Gadsby”-style light poles and include directional information specific to the immediate area.  Maps with information and photos on historical events, museums, shopping and dining appear on the signs to assist visitors in learning more about Alexandria and finding their destinations.  

Most signs were installed along King Street, with two signs on the 100 block of N. Union Street and two signs on the 300 block of Cameron Street.

This project supports recommendations made in the 2010 Wayfinding Guidelines, which guides the implementation of a comprehensive citywide signage system.  The recommendations call for development of a vehicular and pedestrian wayfinding system for destinations throughout Alexandria, with a focus on the Old Town core.  The next phase of the wayfinding project, slated for installation in the summer of 2017, will include over 60 new vehicular directional signs.
