[Archived] Veteran’s Ball at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, November 12, 2016

Raise a glass to freedom and toast our Revolutionary War veterans with a ball in their honor! The Veterans Ball will be held on Saturday, November 12 in the historic ballroom of Gadsby’s Tavern Museum. The evening will feature a variety of English Country dances, live music, cash bar, and period-inspired desserts. The ball will also feature a special recognition of all veterans for their service. Although 1780s period costume (military or civilian) is optional, “after five” attire is encouraged! The ball will be held from 8 – 11 p.m. and tickets are $45 per person. To purchase tickets, please visit alexandriava.gov/Shop or call 703.746.4242.

To prepare, come to Gadsby’s Tavern Museum to learn English country dancing from highly skilled dance instructors. Those not familiar with this style of dancing should complete at least one full class to become accustomed to the figures and language for the ball. Classes will be taught Thursday evenings on October 27, November 3, and November 10 from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m., and are $12 per class or $30 for the series of three. Reservations are recommended.

In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Gadsby’s Tavern was the center of social and political life in Alexandria and the new Federal City of Washington.  The tavern served as the premier gathering place for residents – including George Washington – and visitors to eat, drink, learn, and influence history. Gadsby’s Tavern Museum is located at 134 N. Royal Street in Old Town Alexandria.  For more information, please visit www.gadsbystavern.org.
