The City of Alexandria Department of Community and Human Services Division of Aging and Adult Services are co-sponsoring the 30th Annual Caregivers Conference, Gems: A Treasure Chest of Ideas, on Friday, November 11, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Alexandria, 2932 King Street.
Those individuals caring for or working with persons with dementia are encouraged to attend. Speakers include: Teepa Snow, nationally-known speaker on dementia, local experts Dr. Drew Falconer, Dr. Sean Roberts and Stacey E. Young.

This Annual Caregiver Conference recognizes that caregiving for someone with dementia involves the entire family — spouses, adult children, grandkids, siblings, neighbors and friends. This conference provides valuable information on understanding dementia, ways to help yourself and ways to engage your loved one at home. Learn how to manage difficult behaviors, and different caregiving resources from 35 on-site vendors.
The cost of the conference is only $30 and includes breakfast, lunch and a certificate of attendance. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for an additional $30. Deadline for registration is November 1. Limited free in home respite care for persons with dementia is available, but needs to be requested by October 15, by calling GraceFul Care at 703.904.3994.
