The Alexandria Fire Department will observe National Fire Prevention Week on Friday, October 14, with a memorial service and wreath laying at 11 a.m. The solemn ceremony is held each year at Ivy Hill Cemetery, to honor those who have died in the line of duty and members of the Fire Department who have passed away during the preceding 12 months.

For the memorial service, the cemetery’s entrance will be framed with a display of fire apparatus. Ivy Hill’s park-like setting offers a quiet place to reflect on the sacrifices made by firefighters throughout the city’s history.

The media and the public are invited to attend the ceremony. Uniformed members of the Alexandria Fire Department, Alexandria Volunteer Fire Department, and Fire Department retirees will be present to honor their fallen brothers and sisters.

In the case of inclement weather, the event will be held at the First Baptist Church of Alexandria located at 2932 King St.
