[Archived] Reduced Mowing Zones Designated in City Parks

Consistent with the City Council adoption of the FY 2017 operating budget, the Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities (RPCA) implemented reduced mowing intervals, increasing mowing intervals from 12 days to 14 days in all City parks, and portions of 22 parks have increased mowing intervals to a 28-day or biannual basis. Reductions in mowing intervals do not affect active use areas, including athletic fields, in parks.

In addition to cost savings and energy use reductions, the mowing interval reductions will increase habitat for animals, encourage native plant growth, and promote sustainable landscapes by reducing the use of mowers and equipment.  Parks with portions on a 28-day mowing interval or on a biannual basis include:

Staff installed signs near 28-day and biannual mowing zones, and posted maps in kiosks to alert the public. Visit the RPCA FY 2017 Service Expectations website for list of service adjustments.
