[Archived] Alexandria Fire Department Receives FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant

On Friday, September 2,  Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine announced that the Alexandria Fire Department has been awarded a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant. The Fire Department will receive $337,656 in funding. “The grant funds will be used to support our Firefighter/Paramedic program, which cross-trains EMS personnel to become firefighters,” said Fire Chief Robert C. Dubé. “Working with cross-trained staff enables us to significantly increase our response capabilities to better serve our community, aligns us with our neighboring jurisdictions, and provides us with much greater flexibility in how we allocate resources across our response system.”
 
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program supports local fire departments by providing funds for new equipment and training. The primary goal of the program is to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters by providing direct financial assistance to eligible fire departments, nonaffiliated Emergency Medical Services organizations, and State Fire Training Academies for critically needed resources.
