[Archived] Vanetta M. Pledger Named Alexandria’s Chief Information Officer and Director of Information Technology Services

Vanetta Pledger - 2016City Manager Mark B. Jinks has announced that Vanetta M. Pledger will serve as Chief Information Officer and Director of Information Technology Services for the City of Alexandria, effective September 12.  Pledger will serve as the City’s principal strategist on information technology (IT) issues, manage the City’s 10-year, $52 million IT capital investment plan, facilitate IT solutions and excellence in IT operations throughout City government, and lead a department of 56.

“I am very pleased to welcome Vanetta back to Alexandria,” said Jinks. “Her broad experience and proven results, combined with her extensive knowledge of local government, make her a strong choice to lead the City’s technology programs.”

Pledger joined the City in 1999 as an email support engineer, and was later promoted to database administrator.  In 2007, she was named director of information technology for Orange County, Va.  She returned to Alexandria in 2010 to lead the City’s IT operations division, and was promoted in 2013 to chief of the network management division.  In 2014, Pledger became the director of information technology for the City of Bowie, Md.

Over her technology career, Pledger’s areas of responsibility have included institutional networks, enterprise applications, telecommunications services, geographic information systems (GIS), public safety technology systems, IT security, budgeting and procurement, and project management.

Pledger holds a bachelor’s degree in management and a bachelor’s degree in decision sciences and management information systems, both from George Mason University.  She also holds a master’s degree in information technology systems and a certificate in federal executive competencies for chief information officers, both from The George Washington University.
