[Archived] Alexandria Voter Registration Office is Coming to Your Neighborhood This Summer

The Alexandria Voter Registration and Elections Office is going on the road. You may register to vote or check your registration status, complete an absentee ballot application, and get a free Voter Photo ID if you need one, at the locations, dates and times listed below.

Check Your Voter Registration Status
If you need to register to vote, or if you have moved or changed your name since the last time you voted, please make sure you are registered at your current address. It takes just a minute, and could help you save lots of time at the polling place on Election Day. The registration deadline for the November 8, 2016 general election is October 17.

Make Sure You Have an Acceptable Photo ID
State law requires Virginia voters to show photo identification when voting in person, for example a Virginia Driver's License, U.S. Passport, Military ID, student photo ID, or employer-issued photo ID.

You can review the complete list of acceptable forms of photo ID at the Virginia Department of Elections web site. Voters who do not have an acceptable photo ID may apply for free Voter Photo ID from one of the neighborhood locations listed above or at the Alexandria's Voter Registration Office, 132 North Royal St., Suite 100. The Office is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

You do not need to bring anything with you to apply for a free Voter Photo ID card. When you get to the Voter Registration Office (or one of the sites listed above), you will fill out a short application; we will take your picture and get your signature; and you will receive your voter identification card in the mail within two weeks. If you need to update your name or address, you may do so at the same time you come in for the ID.
Learn About Absentee Voting Options
Don’t let a long commute, business trip, vacation, school, disability or illness put your right to vote at risk. You may request an absentee ballot by mail now, or, you may vote in-person absentee beginning September 23. Your absentee ballot will be counted after polls close on Election Day and included in the results reported that night.
