[Archived] City of Alexandria Seeks Community Input on New Police Chief Search

The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) is working with the City of Alexandria to conduct a comprehensive, nationwide search for a new police chief. The process will incorporate a critical review of information from a wide variety of sources, including input from the community, to help identify the most important skills and capacities for the next chief executive of the police department.

IACP will facilitate two community meetings and an online survey to gather feedback on perceived challenges, qualities and top priorities for the new chief.  The initial public input opportunities are as follows:

In June, Police Chief Earl L. Cook announced his retirement after more than 37 years of service to the City of Alexandria, effective October 1. The City will recruit Cook’s successor from among the talented law enforcement leadership within the Alexandria Police Department and across the nation.

The City of Alexandria is committed to compliance with the City’s Human Rights Code and the Americans with Disabilities Act. To request a reasonable accommodation or to request materials in an alternative format, call the Department of Human Resources at 703.746.3777.
