City of Alexandria Begins King-Beauregard Intersection Improvements Project

On June 18, City of Alexandria officials broke ground at the intersection of King and Beauregard Streets, kicking off the official start of construction for the King-Beauregard Intersection Improvements project.

“This marks decades of hard work and the start of a revitalized West End King Street corridor,” said Mayor Allison Silberberg.  “This project addresses long-term safety, infrastructure and aesthetic concerns.”

The project includes roadway and sidewalk improvements, the construction of new medians, and a 10-foot shared use path on portions of King Street. Phase I construction begins in June and is estimated to be completed this fall.  Utility relocation will follow, and is expected to be completed in early 2018.  Phase II construction is expected to begin in spring 2018 and estimated to be completed in 2019.

Upon completion of the project, residents can expect a more efficient intersection that will improve traffic flow for the entire corridor; improvements to increase safety for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists; and a storm drainage system that will meet City standards.
