Are you concerned about Zika, West Nile Virus or other mosquito-borne
diseases? Learn about what the City of Alexandria is doing and what you can do
to “Fight the Bite!”
Join the Alexandria Health Department on the third Wednesday of
each month from June through October at various locations throughout Alexandria.
Meeting attendees will learn more about mosquitoes, the City’s Vector Borne
Illness Program, and what steps residents can take to protect themselves and
their families.
The first meeting is Wednesday, June 15, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.,
at the Lee Center (1108 Jefferson St.) in the Auditorium.
The Vector Borne Illness Prevention Program performs
surveillance, prevention and control of the mosquito population in Alexandria
to help decrease the incidence of mosquito-borne illnesses such as West Nile
and Zika.
Residents can minimize mosquito breeding by eliminating standing
water around their homes or businesses, and protect themselves from insect
bites by covering up or applying repellant. More information and tips can be
found at alexandriava.gov/MosquitoControl.
