[Archived] Public Art Open House for Beauregard Street Traffic Control Box Wraps

For Immediate Release: May 23, 2016

The public is invited to meet the artists chosen for 2016 Traffic Control Box Wraps public art project.  The informal meet-and-greet will be held at the William Ramsay Recreation Center at 5650 Sanger Ave. on Tuesday, May 24 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.  The public is invited to meet the artists, see their past artwork and discuss the artists’ approaches to the project.

The selected artists Alison Sigethy from Alexandria, Jennifer Brewer Stone from Arlington, and Ian M. Cage from North Carolina are each creating four original designs that will be wrapped on twelve traffic control boxes at intersections located along Beauregard Street and Seminary Road in the West End of Alexandria. The installation is scheduled to be completed the first week in July.

The artists were chosen from a regional call that brought in over forty qualified applications that included artists from Virginia, Maryland, DC, North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Kentucky.  The applications were evaluated by a five member task force made up of community stakeholders. Last year, artists Anthony Palliparambil, Erin Curtis and the team of Pamela Underhill and Roger Foster designed wraps for twelve traffic control boxes along Duke Street.
