Celebrate building safety and the professionals who help keep us safe. Join the City of Alexandria on May 6 for the Building Safety Month Kick-Off Event at Market Square, 301 King Street, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Building Safety Month is a public awareness campaign offered each year to help individuals, families and businesses understand what it takes to create and sustain safe and sustainable structures. This year’s theme is Building Codes: Driving Growth through Innovation, Resilience and Safety.
The free event will include a proclamation by Mayor Allison Silberberg and remarks by City Manager Mark Jinks, followed by lunch and exhibits from City departments and the local building community. The event also features a free training session, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., on the current International Swimming Pool and Spa Code, issued in 2012. The training is provided by the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals. To attend, please RSVP to quenten.giles@alexandriava.gov.
Founded by the International Code Council, Building Safety Month is celebrated by jurisdictions worldwide during the month of May. The campaign reinforces the need for adoption of modern, model building codes, a strong and efficient system of code enforcement and a well-trained, professional workforce to maintain the system.
