The City of Alexandria has launched a new online platform to make paying taxes simpler and more convenient. The first phase of new features let taxpayers access their personal property tax (car tax) accounts to view balances and make secure online payments. If a paper bill with account information is not available, other identifiers may also be used.
The City’s website is mobile-friendly, and available via any Internet-connected device 24 hours a day. Payments may be made via Discover, MasterCard, and Visa credit and debit cards at a lower service fee than previously available, or by transfer from a checking account with no service fee.
“While paying taxes may not be enjoyable, we want to make the process as clear and convenient as we can,” said Director of Finance Kendel Taylor. “We will continue to add new features to improve customer service.”
Future enhancements will let taxpayers manage their accounts and update information; review payment history; exchange secure messages with City staff; make other types of tax payments; file business tax returns; and opt-in to receive bills electronically instead of by mail.
The City continues to provide many easy ways to make payments, including online, at a cash payment center, via ACH debits, by phone, by mail, or in person at City Hall. Visit alexandriava.gov/Payments for more information.
