[Archived] Thirteen to be Honored at Salute to Women Awards

Alexandria’s Commission for Women has announced the names of the honorees for its 36th Annual Salute to Women Awards. Thirteen women will be recognized for their accomplishments in civic life and for the improvements they have brought to the well-being of Alexandria’s women. The awards are presented for achievement in a wide range of private and governmental pursuits, including the arts, business, service to youth, public policy, health and safety, public service and civic leadership.

The 2016 Awardees, who were selected by an independent committee appointed by the Commission, are: Hannah Godshall and Shakina Dunbar-Rawlings (Rising Star Awards), Kathleen Burns (Making a Difference Award), McKenya Dilworth Abdalla (Youth Community Services Award-Adult), Isabella Lovain (Youth Community Services Award-Youth), Priscilla Goodwin (Maguerite Payez Leadership Award), Helen Morris (Marian Van Landingham Legislation and Public Policy Award), Gloria Barbre (Donna Bergheim Cultural Affairs Award), Claire Dunn (Women’s Health and Safety Advocate Award), Stephanie Wright and Tricia Sabatini of Together We Bake (Leadership in Business and Career Development Award), Tamika Coleman (Vola Lawson Award) and Lisa Baker (Susan Lowell Butler Lifetime Achievement Award). The Salute to Women Awards ceremony will be held on Monday, March 28, at the Patent and Trade Office, 600 Dulany Street, Alexandria. The reception begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person. Sponsorships and ads in the program are also available.
