For Immediate Release: March 8, 2016
Join the City of Alexandria’s Office of the Arts and Office
of Historic Alexandria on Wednesday, March 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the
African American History Museum, 902 Wythe St., for a
presentation and discussion with experts in the field of public art, history
and historic house programming about how contemporary art projects have
enlivened and invigorated house museums and historic sites. Reception to
follow.
How can artists engage new audiences and enrich the visitor
experience at historic sites? How have historic sites paired compelling
historical narratives with dynamic contemporary art? How do artists collaborate
with historians, research sites and archives to create new work? How can
artists contribute to the conversation about the role of a city’s past in its
