For Immediate Release: February 16, 2016
The community is invited to attend a series of open houses
and town halls Tuesday, February 23 through Saturday, February 27 to provide
input on the development of a Citywide arts and culture plan. For a complete
list of open house dates, time, and locations, visit www.alexandriava.gov/87578.
The goal of the plan is to create a long-term plan that
better capitalizes on existing resources to make Alexandria’s rich arts and
culture sector stronger, more accessible, and more sustainable. This plan
allows the City of Alexandria to better integrate arts and culture into other
policy areas, including education, economic development, public safety, public
health, youth activities, human services, housing, parks, and open spaces.
The City of Alexandria Office of the Arts is working with
Cultural Planning group in developing the Citywide public plan. Cultural
planning is an inclusive process that engages residents, visitors, and various
sectors to help local government identify cultural resources, needs, and
opportunities and think strategically about how these resources can help a
community to achieve its civic goals. Here in Alexandria, we have titled this
process Alexandria Creates!
Persons unable to attend the meeting can send written
comments to the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities,
