For Immediate Release: January 11, 2016
The City of Alexandria Office of the Arts invites artists
and artist teams residing in Virginia, Maryland, District of Columbia, West
Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina and Tennessee to submit their qualifications
for this year’s Traffic Control Box Vinyl Wrap Public Art Project.
Up to three artists or artist teams will be selected to
design wraps for 12 traffic control boxes located at intersections in the West
End of the City of Alexandria. The wraps will cover all four sides and the top
of each box. Artists are encouraged to use a variety of media, such as
photography, painting, collage, digital imagery, etc. to develop their designs.
Selected artists will be required to submit their final designs at full-scale
in a digital format such as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign or a combination
of the three. The City will be responsible for the printing and installation of
the box wraps.
The unveiling of the traffic control box wraps will coincide
with National Public Works Week beginning on Sunday, May 15, 2016.
The deadline to submit applications is 11:59 p.m. Sunday,
January 31, 2016 Mountain Standard Time (MST).
