[Archived] Corey Smedley Named Alexandria's Deputy Fire Chief of Emergency Management and Homeland Security

Corey SmedleyFire Chief Robert C. Dubé has announced the appointment of Corey Smedley as Deputy Fire Chief of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, effective December 7, 2015. 

"Emergency preparedness and response are essential components of our public safety system, and Corey's expertise will be very valuable," said Dubé.  "Corey's leadership in planning and coordination will support the role each member of our community plays in being prepared for emergencies and reporting hazards."

Most recently, Smedley served as the Deputy Chief of the Prince George's County (Md.) Fire/EMS Department responsible for administrative services and budget.  He began his career with the department in 1995 as a firefighter, and has served in roles as varied as Fire Marshal, Special Events Coordinating Chair, and Fedex Field Stadium Commander.

In Prince George's County, Smedley also served as Special Assistant to the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer of Public Safety, where he assisted with strategic planning initiatives. He also served as a Fire/EMS liaison with Police, Corrections, Homeland Security/Emergency Management, Office of the Sheriff, State's Attorney and the county judicial system.

Smedley is a Nationally Registered Paramedic and a certified fire inspector, instructor and investigator.  He earned the Certified Public Manager credential from The George Washington University and holds inactive status as a Maryland certified law enforcement officer.  Smedley holds a bachelor's degree in mass media from the University of the District of Columbia and a master's degree in management from Johns Hopkins University.
